Being Neighborly

Hello Neighbors! The Board wanted to address a couple of general complaints that we have received about some issues in our community. While some of these things don’t necessarily violate the covenant we wanted to send out a friendly reminder to everyone about being neighborly.

Children Playing In the Street or On Other’s Property

We understand that with the current state of things children are wanting to get out of the house and parents are happy to let them run. However, allowing your children to play on other neighbor’s property without permission or in the street has been a cause for concern. The last thing that the Board would want to see is property that has been damaged or worse, a child that has been hurt. Please ensure that your children are respectful of other neighbor’s property and are playing in a safe manner.

Driving In the Neighborhood

Trust us, we enjoy going fast and listening to loud music as much as the next person but we prefer that not be done in the neighborhood. As mentioned above, there may be children playing in the front yard (or in the street), and on bikes. Please slow down and turn the music down a notch to make sure you are aware of your surroundings.

Additionally, stop signs are not just a suggestion. Even though you are are in a hurry we would ask that you take the 2-3 seconds it takes to make sure that you come to a complete stop and look both ways before proceeding. We have received multiple complaints of people running stop signs at the front entrance and first intersection, nearly causing an accident. Per some conversation in the Facebook group it sounds like a couple of people may have been stopped by Richland County Police Department. Through efforts with our Neighborhood Watch Committee, Richland County has agreed to continue to monitor Misty Glen for driving infractions.

Please be sure that you are driving safe both in our neighborhood and around town.

PArking on the Street

Per the covenant you are not allowed to park vehicles on the street when there is adequate off-street parking available on your property. We get it, sometimes you have to play the vehicle shuffle game or you have friends or family over. Just please be sure that you are being courteous of other neighbors driveways and allowing room before, after, or across from their driveway to allow them to easily enter/exit their driveway. If you must park somewhere other than in your driveway or in front of your property we would encourage you to talk to your neighbor to ensure they are understanding of why you (or visitors) are parking in front of their property. Under no circumstances is it OK to park on a neighbor’s property without prior permission from the property owner. Everyone has limited parking; please be aware of where you or your guests are parking.

Trash and recycling receptacles

Oh no! You put the trash out last night for trash day and now there is trash in your neighbor’s yard or down the street; it happens to the best of us. As much as you hate to have to chase the trash down, please take the time and effort to do so. As much as you hate having to pick up your own trash we guarantee that others like it even less. To that point, please make sure that all trash and trash receptacles are secured so that in the event that there are high wind speeds or mischievous critters that your trash does not end up down the street or in someone else’s yard.
